A busy week for Microsoft saw the firm push out the SharePoint Server 2016 Release Candidate to testers, plus updates to the Office portfolio that include digital ink support for Apple iPad users.
On the downside, Microsoft was forced to recall faulty power cords for some of its Surface tablets after concerns about overheating, while the firm warned that new system platforms from the likes of Intel will be supported only by the latest version of Windows in future.
Conversely, Microsoft also pledged to donate $1bn worth of free cloud services to organisations such as non-profits and universities.
Microsoft warns new hardware will be supported only on Windows 10
Microsoft has issued a warning to customers that new generations of system hardware will be supported only by the latest version of Windows.[1]
The move is to ensure stability for organisations still running Windows 7 and Windows 8.1, according to the firm, but may be viewed by many as another measure aimed at forcing people to upgrade to Windows 10.

Microsoft has published a Release Candidate for SharePoint Server 2016[2], describing the latest build as mostly feature complete ahead of general availability sometime this spring. The release will allow customers to better evaluate how the finished product will perform in a production environment.

Microsoft pledges $1bn worth of free cloud services to non-profits
The company's Philanthropies, Research and Business Development divisions will donate the cloud services over the next three years to organisations such as non-profits and universities.
